The GARDEN Project

GARDEN (Geospatial Archive Resource and Data Exchange Network) is a collaboration between the Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) and partners in the Commonwealth of Virginia to improve spatial data availability.

One aim of GARDEN is to make distributed, redundant sources of Virginia Base Mapping Program (VBMP) aerial photography available for state agencies, local governments, and the public. Several university partners have been engaged to host image caches of processed VBMP photography, which can be used in ESRI's ArcMap GIS software as well as in web applications.

Two current partners have GARDEN aerial photography (orthophotography) sites available to the public: (in alphabetical order)

More partnerships are planned for the future to increase the sites available for imagery and other GIS data access.
